A native of Caracas, Venezuela, he was a member in the first generation of the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra appearing as a soloist at most of the international violin festivals .
He attended the Royal Academy of Music of London in 1989 as a post graduate student.
In 1990 he went to The Netherlands to study with Sigiswald Kuijken at The Royal Conservatory in The Hague, specializing in baroque violin.
.He has performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, Latin America and the USA with La Petite Bande, as well as the , Collegium Vocale, Ricercare Consort, Camerata de Caracas and the Bach Collegium Japan.
In 2002 he founded together with Kaori Toda the ensemble Anima Concordia, with the ensemble has performed throughout Japan and Europe.
Paul Herrera is now living in Japan where he joined the Bach Collegium Japan, with whom he is currently recording the complete series of cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach.
He is a professional maker of baroque and classical bows. He has studied this art with Michael Vann in Victoria, Canada.
